If both parents are going to be named on the birth registration, then both parents must be present at the computer during the process. Paper forms will still be available at the Hospital or City Hall for parents who prefer to submit documents by mail.
Once you have completed and carefully reviewed the Statement of Live Birth, the parent s who are named on the Statement must sign the form as indicated. Please be aware that this process takes considerably longer than the on-line process.
Online Certificate Application
The Office of the Registrar General does not charge a fee for the registration of birth information; although, fees do apply for various other documents including Birth Certificates. There is no fee to register birth information using the Integrated Birth Registration Program; however, the Province does charge a fee to process a Birth Certificate.
If you choose to use the fully electronic 4-in-1 Newborn Registration Service to register your baby's birth, it will take approximately 6 to 8 weeks from the time you submit the birth registration to complete the process. If you choose to mail the paper version of the Statement of Live Birth form to the Office of the Registrar General Province of Ontario , it may take approximately 4 months to complete the birth registration from the time your baby is born.
A birth registration contains information about a newborn and is used to create his or her permanent identity record.
