He had a very tender conscience and a sincere desire to be true to the Lord in every endeavour for right. He served the Leetonia Mennonite Church as a trustee for many years and contributed freely to all enterprises of Church work, especially in lines of missions and charities. In the morning of the day he died he conversed cheerfully with those who were caring for him, saying that the doctor had told him some time ago that in one of these heart attacks he is liable to go, but smilingly remarked, "That does not worry me. Mary was a constant sufferer for more than a year but was able to care for herself most of the time until a few days before her death.
