There are ways to get destanation IP's from the flow of data, but usually require programs similar to " Iris " that are considered "packet sniffers". Joined: Aug 30, Messages: 1, There are IRC scripts that contain traceroute programs for exactly this cause, If everybody had a static ip address then you would know for sure that a certain nickname was coming from a certain IP and if they changed nickname then you would know it was them or someone else was using the same computer.
The reality is that most people have a Dynamic Ip address and in the case of a dial up connection it changes each time you re-connect. If more than 1 person in your chatroom lives in the same geographic location and use the same isp then it is quite possible that as 1 person logs off the net and another 1 logs on at nearly the same time, they can pick up the ip address that the other person just dropped and it would appear to a traceroute program that they had just changed nickname when in fact it is a totally different person. As far as finding out personal details, well I have no doubt that there are those that can do it, but they would be few and far between, unless you had been infected with some trojan by a "script kiddie" and you had your personal address details etc stored on your computer.

It's like the leader of a nation stopping at your work and making threats that he is gonna find out who you are etc etc It's always easy to forget that you may just be arguing or being threatened by a little kid This happened to me about a decade or so ago. I was ready to fight this guy, it turned out he was a 10 year old kid. A highly intelligent one, but a kid none the less.
