The irony of this is that your land line provider charges you extra for an unlisted service — duh, have you all considered the fact that this is actually yet another advantage to go to cell only life style!? They do it because the Government regulators require it. If you look closely at the phone book you will find that many if most companies have outsourced their directories to one of a small number of directory publishers.
They have to pay for the residential listings, hence they want to minimize the quantity of listings. Maybe this is part of the problem.
How to get a non-published Bell Home phone number
Other Telcos might provide the same service. I have always like having my number listed. But I have a VoIP phone. How about including those, too? Steve is right.
Unlisted number
There is also the fact that listing your phone number, is a free service related to a land line offer. Am I being a PC prig? Back on the subject. They will list my number, but I have not found a way to get them to list my wife separately under the same number, as she has a different last name. I cancelled my land line and it was the best thing I ever did.
No more Telemarketers, no more people calling for the residents who lived there before me, even after I told them the people were dead which thy are by the way …whats up with that. I cancelled my land line because I kept getting calls, every other day, from people looking for the folks who lived in my place before me.

And they were dead. I even told them this and they still kept calling.

I just got a notice from my company that cell phone numbers were being released to telemarketers after September As far as listing cell numbers in a directory, this seems like a good business opportunity for someone. See next articles. This is just a guess, but… Our local phone book just happens to be published by our local landline phone company. I think it has something to do with the fact that you pay for incoming minutes on a cell phone. How do I make the number "Unlisted"? I don't know that there is any way to pull it out, but maybe someone else does. In my area the white pages are virtually gone, so many people using alternative phone companies that I expect this to be gone in a year or two anyways.
How do I do the same with Ooma? Maybe an Ooma rep can chime in here. Those 5 numbers have never been published in either of the two phone books in our area or online or on whitepages. Two of them the primary numbers on my two Telo boxes show up in tnid.
Non-listed (semi-private)
Based on my own experience, I think your ooma number is probably pretty secure from casual searching. I won't worry about it, and continue to use blacklist for the random telemarketer's that get through.
There are a lot of great people who hang out here and have great depth of technical and practical advice. You're going to like it here! I have actually had a Core for a 2nd line for long time, and recently added a Telo with Premier. I've already received great help from Tom B.
