Comment: As a physician I ask how we can expect our republican legislators to take care of our health problems when they are unwilling to stop an epidemic of mass murders. For what I concerned Donald Trump, Rick Scott and most of the Republican legislators, not the deranged Nicolas Cruz, have on their hands the blood of the children murdered at Parkland. I called the office of Sen. Rubio to register my concerns and my disapproval for his policies. Believe it or not his answering machine was full. Apparently the good senator was more interested in being briefed by his NRA masters than in listening to the mourning parents of the children that had been murdered with his complicity.

Comment: We should not be living in fear for the safety of our children attending school because of gun violence. We need gun control legislation AND support for mental health to prevent these violent acts and protect families. Comment: We need to study gun violence like any other public health epidemic.

Unfortunately, current federal law prohibits the use of federal funds for such investigations. Comment: We need to stand up to this public health menace. Our streets and schools are no longer safe for anyone let alone our children. They should feel protected by a civil society and not afraid for their lives as ours breaks down. Comment: We need to stand strong against the NRA-controlled Congress and the minority of Americans who do not see this as a problem. Comment: We need to increase pressure on our elected officials to enact meaningful gun laws as we engage our patients on gun safety. This is and always has been a public health issue. Comment: We are tasked with making diagnoses. The diagnosis is that bottomless magazines of ammo, available without registration for use in military-design semiautomatic battlefield weapons, has contributed to mass murders across the decade. Such ammo and weapons can easily be banned or restricted to use in gun ranges. It is also time to register all guns, whether or not used in a well-regulated militia. We do not have more mental illness than other nations, just more unregulated weapons. Comment: Together we can work on preventing firearm violence. Enough tragedies.

We need better gun regulation. Organized public protests are required. When one party is on the take, it is time to call them out for it. Comment: Internists are responsible for addressing public health issues, and gun violence is certainly a public health issue. Comment: Individuals do not need weapons of war.
Comment: If kids are too young to drink alcohol or buy cigarettes they should certainly not be allowed to buy weapons. Also there is no reason that the CDC should be prevented from studying the epidemiology of fire arm deaths in the United States. This policy promulgated by the NRA is an affront to all medicine and to science and health epidemiology. Finally gun locks are cheap and companies should be forced to sell weapons with locks on them. Only fools do not lock up their guns. Comment: If California can create enough momentum to pass referendum on recreational cannabis surely it can do something about firearm safety.
Comment: I was a soldier in Vietnam before medical school.
There is no reason any person in America should own an assault rifle. Comment: I own multiple firearms and believe strongly in the Second Amendment. And I also believe that certain people should not have access to firearms, some of them are my patients unfortunately. But I feel helpless at times and unable to do something about it.
Comment: I am committed, as a physician and mother of three young children, to do my part to help reduce unnecessary gun violence. Comment: Gun violence is an overwhelming public health issue. It should be approached as such. Comment: Gun violence is a public health issue. It is our duty to ask in the care of our patients. They need to read the one sentence amendment. It states that militia can have guns to defend a state, not that Americans can have guns. Comment: Assault rifles need to be banned. Comment: As a graduate of a school victimized by gun violence, I am disturbed by the inattention the government is giving to both gun reform and mental health reform.
I am hopeful to see changes for the better in the future. Comment: As a geriatrician, I recognize the risk of gun-related violence and loss of life among older adults, including those who are Veterans, have dementia, have functional limitations. Comment: When a healthcare professional deems that a troubled patient is at risk to himself or others, that healthcare professional should have the power to not only report the risk to the appropriate authorities, but also the authorities shall have the right to visit the home and remove all weapons until such time as the patient is certified emotionally stable by a health professional.
Comment: Gun violence is a threat to our society like a cancer is a threat to health. Comment: Assault weapons should be banned for every American.
All other guns should only be issued to adults over 21 who passed stringent training evaluations and whose firearms must be in lock boxes. Comment: Murders must be stopped by those who benefit from murder. Comment: Please study firearm risk more so I can better inform my patients! Comment: Shootings are a public health issue and should be studied so that proper solutions can emerge.
