Elder Richard G. Scott is one such individual. His complete dedication to the Lord is reflected in the gifts of a Renaissance man. Here is a man tal- ented in language, art, and music; an expert who foresees and harnesses technology to benefit the worldwide Church; a leader who blesses individu- als and families across generations; a husband and father who despite his great abilities to communicate says he cannot adequately express his love for his wife and family.
Born November 7, , in Pocatello, Idaho, Elder Scott manifests "great gratitude for the restored gospel of Jesus Christ" and the way it "trans- formed and united for eternity" his parents and family. They were sealed July 16, , in the Manti Temple. She passed away May 15, Elder Scott describes his wife as "a constant inspi- ration and example and the light of my life.
The Scott family has great stories about how fun and humorous he is, about his "love of life. At their grandfather's Maryland farm the family laughed and splashed together in the pond. Early in life Elder Scott wanted to be an engineer. He says, "Engineering is tied to reason, where you determine from a plethora of facts that are signifi- cant and organize them to accomplish worthy objectives.
His work included developing fuel for the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear- powered submarine, as well as many subsequent naval vessels. Elder Scott admired the legendary navy admiral for his courage, competence, and ability to accomplish things, and, in turn, was valued and trusted by the admiral.
