The scam appears to be based overseas, because that is where the money was sent. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is a scam. If you have elderly relatives who may be prone to falling victim to a scam like this, please watch out for them and keep a close track of their finances.

Usually when the money is gone in a case like this, it is gone for good. There is not a big success rate in prosecuting scams because a lot of them are international.
